Death Threats for Cartoonists Depicting Muhammad : Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | World

Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | World: "Muslims upset by cartoons

Danish paper defends images of Muhammad, banned in Sunni Islam

12:00 AM CST on Saturday, December 10, 2005

/ Associated Press

COPENHAGEN, Denmark ? It was a provocative exercise: asking cartoonists to draw pictures of the prophet Muhammad to be published in one of Denmark's largest newspapers.

But apparently no one at the Jyllands-Posten daily imagined the scale of the fallout: death threats against the artists, protest strikes in Kashmir, condemnation from Muslim leaders worldwide, and criticism from the U.N."

The paper refused to apologize for publishing the drawings, which appeared Sept. 30, citing freedom of speech ? a right cherished in this northern European country of 5.4 million.

Artists now, as they have for centuries, stake their lives for their expression.

iDefense : Hacktivism- Nazi Sober virus planned for January 2006

iDefense : About iDefense : News Center : Recent Releases

from idefense.com:

he attack date coincides with the 87th anniversary of the founding of the Nazi party. Additionally, the attack could have a significantly detrimental effect on Internet traffic, as e-mail servers are flooded with politically motivated spam e-mails from potentially tens of millions of e-mail addresses.

In addition to the Nazi party anniversary, the Jan. 5 trigger on the Sober variant appears to also be timed to coincide with a major German political convention meeting the next day, Jan. 6. In the past, VeriSign iDefense Security Intelligence Services has seen mass distribution of propaganda timed with political events to increase the worm's notoriety, and help to further circulate it.

"This discovery emphasizes the ever-present and often underestimated threat of 'hacktivism' - combining malicious code with political causes," said Joe Payne, Vice President, VeriSign iDefense Security Intelligence Services. "Exposing this latest variant required technical and geopolitical analysis that connected the dots to give enterprises and home users plenty of time to shore up their defenses."

Flash Goddess Gallery : Featured Artist : Nina Paley

Flash does have some quirks, but as a cartoonist's tool it is efficient.
Use of the pencil tool, set at thickness of 0.5, in combination with the smooth line and connect lines functions allows one to trace a pencil sketch easily.
